It’s me, Gizem!

When I was a little kid I used to tell everyone I would be an architect when I grew up. I fulfilled my dream of becoming an architect when I graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 2007. I had the privilege of starting my career by designing shopping malls at ERA Architects, one of the most prominent architectural firms in Turkey.

Later on, I went to Iowa State University in the US where I worked as a research assistant for back then Assoc.Doc. Ulrike Passe and completed my Master of Architecture. During my post-graduate studies, I focused on understanding how politics, sociology, and anthropology shape urban development and architecture and I wrote a thesis with the title “Dealing with the Rapid Development: Creation of the Informal Urban Economy & Gecekondu Housing in Istanbul.”

After I returned from the US, I worked on a wide range of different project typologies from log houses to skyscrapers and eventually I stepped into the world of high-end interior design as I started working on hotel and SPA design and construction projects.

In 2016, I took a leap of faith and set up my firm in Istanbul thanks to the encouragement and support of one of my former employers, mentor and friend Aktug Sivrioglu. Surprisingly, however, my journey brought me to Galway, Ireland in 2019 and in 2024 I set up a new firm in Ireland. As a busy mom of two very busy boys, I have been enjoying working on interior architecture projects for my clients in Ireland, the UK, and Turkey.
